Signs and Symptoms of Celiac Disease

 

Possible symptoms of Celiac disease are:

 

Liquid, foul-smelling diarrhea

Headaches and/or migraines

Blistered rashes on stomach, buttocks, arms, legs, hands, feet (commonly known as Dermatitis Herpetiformis)

Abdominal cramping

Distended abdomen

Weight loss

Unexplained weight gain

Anemia

High fever

Irritability

Flatulence (gas)

Anxiety attacks

Vomiting (at times projectile vomiting)

Inability to sleep through the night

Listlessness

Low height and weight gain

Dark circles under the eyes

Lack of muscle definition

 

It can take up to 6 months for the intestinal tract to recover after each instance of ingesting gluten. If left untreated, Celiac disease can cause permanent damage to the small intestine. It can become life-threatening and may lead to other conditions such as:

 

Osteoporosis and other bone diseases

Bone "pain"

Weight loss

Internal hemorrhaging
